Frequently Asked Questions

1.What clay bodies do we use?

I believe in using local resources as they would leave a lesser carbon footprint. Hence, a good quality stoneware clay is sourced from Indian suppliers of clay. The clay bodies and glazes that I use are all lead free and tested food safe, microwave & oven friendly. Most of all other raw materials used are also indigenous and I try to make most of my sculptural glazes too non-toxic.

2. How do we fire our products?

All the products at KlayKathaa are multi-fired at 1220+°C in the studio.

Handle With Care
• As they are high fired, these wares are microwave and oven safe. Same care should be taken to handle them like
in the case of glasswares
• Hand wash with mild detergents only. Abrasive/harsh cleaning agents should not be used

3. How do you make your pottery?

I make all my pieces from clay -either through hand building or through wheel throwing or a combination of the two techniques moulding and shaping it into different forms.

4. What is the material you use for making pottery?

I use white and a dark colour stoneware clay and porcelain in my studio for making pottery. These are mid-range clays (fired to 1220+ celsius) and perfect for daily use as they are stronger and less prone to breakage and damage. The glazes used are all 100% lead free and food safe.

5. Is your pottery food safe?

Yes, all my pottery pieces are 100% lead-free and food-safe.

6. How do I care for my pottery pieces?

Each of our ceramic ware is made with cone 6 stoneware or porcelain clay which is more resistant to breakage. To retain the quality of your piece and ensure longevity, hand-washing with a non-abrasive cloth or sponge in soapy water is recommended. However, the products are dishwasher and microwave safe. Avoid placing in extreme hot or cold environments such as oven or freezer as this may cause thermal shock and result in fragility and cracking and/or breakage.

7. Do you accept commissions or custom orders?

Yes, I do offer commissions and customs orders. Please write to klaykathaa@gmail.com for such requests.

8. Do you take pre-orders?

Pre-order is available for selected items. In case you wish you place a pre-order for an item, you can do so on the website itself. Please note that the item will be ready for shipping in 4-5 weeks. If you have placed an order for available items along with a pre-ordered item, all items will be shipped together to save on the shipping costs. In case you wish to receive an available item as soon as possible, then kindly place two separate orders- one for the available item and the other for the pre-ordered item.

9. Why my piece looks different from the one that I saw in the picture when ordering?

This product is hand crafted and may have slight irregularities that are a natural outcome of human involvement in the process. So please expect a minor deviation at times.

I pack all my pieces with utmost care and attention. All the pieces are bubble wrapped with multiple layers, placed in a thick cardboard box which is cushioned with crumpled paper or air packets.
